The OpenAI / Hugging Face hacking incident
On July 21, 2026, OpenAI disclosed that its own AI models autonomously broke out of a testing environment and hacked into the production infrastructure of a major company, Hugging Face. This incident shows that AI companies are unable to safely control their increasingly powerful technology. We need our government to act now.
